In my professional career I find myself communicating differently with people from work in different groups and cultures and I adapt communication style to best serve them. In some instances it may be appropriate to use technology as a medium to communicate, and in other instances I may need to talk with them face to face, or have a lunch date (a more relaxed atmosphere). Our staff is very diverse and with that in mind everyone has a preferred method of communicating and interacting and I try to govern myself accordingly based on the individual. I have also learned the importance of listening before responding as well as reciting key words that the individual used to affirm for them that I was listening. Three effective strategies I have adopted based on the resources for the week is the following 1.Establishing Trust 2. Active Listening and 3. Effectively reflect the conversation summarizing their thoughts demonstrating your ability to listen. The video below summarizes the keys to effective communication enjoy!

Interview with Oprah Winfrey and Whitney Houston
This week I decided to reflect upon one of my favorite all-time pop rock stars Mrs.Whitney Houston. This interview with Oprah Winfrey captures a myriad of emotions from the interviewer and interviewee. Based on these two individuals being famous I would have to assume that they have a general knowledge of each other and know each other intimately based upon the open conversations they are have in this interview. Based on my observations genuine authentic feelings are expressed in non-verbal behavior with intermittent pauses of reflection, smiles, touches, and sharing deep personal challenges in life. Due to the personal challenges of the former Mrs. Houston the interview captures the heart of her personal struggles and how th the love of a mother reached her when no one else could. Communication shared in the form of sharing personal triumphs, equates to a heart-wrenching compelling story.Enjoy the clip below of the interview:
