In my professional career I find myself communicating differently with people from work in different groups and cultures and I adapt communication style to best serve them. In some instances it may be appropriate to use technology as a medium to communicate, and in other instances I may need to talk with them face to face, or have a lunch date (a more relaxed atmosphere). Our staff is very diverse and with that in mind everyone has a preferred method of communicating and interacting and I try to govern myself accordingly based on the individual. I have also learned the importance of listening before responding as well as reciting key words that the individual used to affirm for them that I was listening. Three effective strategies I have adopted based on the resources for the week is the following 1.Establishing Trust 2. Active Listening and 3. Effectively reflect the conversation summarizing their thoughts demonstrating your ability to listen. The video below summarizes the keys to effective communication enjoy!
About Me
- ncouragingminds~
- Hello welcome to ncouraging minds my name is Tarsha. I am passionate about early intervention, parent education, and providers/teachers who serve young children. I enjoying conducting educational seminars and helping participants gain new knowledge. Most importantly I gain the most satisfaction from "light bulb" moments that participants have in my seminars. Being a lifelong learner and seeking opportunities to grow and develop have become dear to me. I enjoy quiet time, beaches, and time with loved ones. I am the proud mother of two children, and wife of my college sweetheart.
Tarsha:
ReplyDeleteI like that you included technology in your review of how you communicate with different people. I think of professionals I work with that prefer to communicate through email and other electronic tools. This has been more true of younger people than older co-workers. Yet, it has not always been the case. I also find the message dictates whether I use technology to communicate. There are some conversations that just need to be done face to face.
Thank you for sharing the video as well. She provided some clear bullet points for effective communication.
